Write a chapter on common community management mistakes #35

Description

@semioticrobotic

Compose a guidebook chapter surveying some common mistakes community managers tend to make (and explaining how to avoid them, if possible!). Topics may include:

  • Handling loss of contributors, off-boarding, and succession
  • How to decide when to end a project
  • Best practices for ending a project gracefully
  • Forking or taking over projects (esp. with regard to trademarks)

    Ray suggests, can we get a top-five from different community managers?

    Here are some of my suggestions for the top 5 list:

    • Placing too much emphasis on community metrics.
    • Too quick to rely on (new) tools to solve problems in the community.
    • Not placing enough emphasis on Diversity & Inclusion from Day 1.
  6. removed this from the 2.2 milestone on May 14, 2025
