Welcome to Gopher, the original internet protocol, created in 1991 by the University of Minnesota team.

Offering stable network connectivity, static file serving, and simplicity, Gopher was a groundbreaking technology that changed the world forever.

The purpose of this project is to advocate for Gopher’s continued use and affect a technological renaissance in which the Gopher protocol will play a central role.

The project has a token – $GOPHER – traded on Raydium and Orca DEXes on Solana.

--- Mission Statement -------------------------------------

Today’s web is ruled by the ancient HTTP protocol and a highly bloated ecosystem of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Plagued by excessive handshakes, header overhead, and outdated design choices, the internet has become slow, inefficient, and insecure, with multiple attack vectors that persist due to legacy infrastructure.

The Gopher project will lobby Google, Mozilla, Apple, Perplexity, and other browser companies – and their employees – to include Gopher support in modern versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Brave, and other web clients.

In parallel, we aim to build new software, including a modern state-of-the-art Gopher client, and a new ecosystem of apps that run on Gopher and leave HTTP behind.

We are here to take back the web.

--- Technical Information ---------------------------------

Gopher’s single-request simplicity reduces overhead, improves speed, and minimizes security exposure compared to HTTP’s multi-stage model.

Unlike HTTP, which requires multiple handshakes and complex headers, Gopher uses a lightweight, menu-driven approach that eliminates unnecessary data transfers.

This reduces attack vectors such as cross-site scripting and complex session hijacking, making Gopher a faster and safer alternative for static content delivery.

--- Lore ---------------------------------------------------

A vast number of Gopher sites are still online, many providing an endless amount of memetic material.

There’s a wealth of retro internet culture hidden in these menus.

YouTube videos explore Gopher’s history and functionality in depth, and we encourage the community to document, archive, and remix these resources.

--- Token --------------------------------------------------

A total of 1 billion $GOPHER tokens are in circulation.

The token is traded on Raydium and Orca. The Raydium pool’s liquidity is burnt via the bonding curve.

After the launch, we will begin verification on Jupiter and Solscan, and submit CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap applications.

We hope the $GOPHER community will take an active part in the life of the project.

--- Roadmap ------------------------------------------------

Advocating for the Gopher technology will boost meaningful visibility for the project in software builder communities, in Web3, and beyond.

Silicon Valley must know that Gopher is back and ready to reclaim the internet.

--- Charity ------------------------------------------------

A portion of $GOPHER trading fees will go to M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital, a leading pediatric hospital in Minneapolis and part of the University of Minnesota, home of the Golden Gophers. The hospital provides life-saving care for children with critical illnesses. Donate directly.

A command-line version of the Jupiter swap widget is in development.

In the meantime:
1) Copy the contract above.
2) Open Jupiter, Raydium, or Orca manually.
3) Paste the contract and swap.

Disclosure: Gopher is serious tech; $GOPHER is a memecoin with no intrinsic value. NFA DYOR.
