Learn how to use the belt correctly, when to rely on it, and why it’s essential for anyone pushing their limits in the weight room. What Does the Weight Lifting Belt Do? First, let’s get into what the weight lifting belt is actually for. Contrary to what some believe, it’s not just for advanced lifters or competitive powerlifters. The belt’s main function is to stabilize your core and lower back during heavy lifts by increasing intra-abdominal pressure. This pressure acts as a brace around your spine, helping you keep proper form and protecting you from strain or injury.
