Staff-level software engineer: LLM systems, platform and infrastructure

Machine-readable: /llms.txt · /cv.json

Summary

I'm the engineer you trust with what nobody owns. I find what needs doing, build it, run it and carry the pager, and I make the team around me faster, not just my own work. When something breaks I follow it to the root, even when the root is in Rails or Rack. Ten years of that on platforms with million-user communities; lately, LLM systems that run in production on their own. Looking for a staff or founding seat on a small remote team, or a fixed-scope mission.

Feedback

All feedback from the team and client has been very positive. Will certainly reach out in the future when we have another opportunity

Amanda Bizzinotto, Director of Operations (OmbuLabs)

Autonomous and takes ownership

Engineering Manager (Hivebrite)

Data-driven and analytical; helps challenge architectural decisions with concrete data

Tech Lead (Hivebrite)

Professional Experience

Independent Engineer

Nov 2025 - Present
  • Ship and run a daily AI news briefing alone, from product to on-call: unattended since January 2026, with its cost and every failure public (Projects)
  • Building Dispatch, an agent platform where nothing reaches a regulated client on the model's word alone; rehearsed end to end, not yet in production
  • Shipped Steer alone, from Swift code to website: a native macOS app that turns a game controller into full desktop input

Backend Engineering Consultant·OmbuLabs (via FastRuby.io)

Jan 2025 - Nov 2025
  • Got a CI pipeline that had been red for years green again, so the team could deploy instead of shipping around it
  • Set the frontend modernisation strategy and pitched it to the client's stakeholders, who expanded the engagement to a design-system overhaul
  • Unblocked modularisation of a Rails 3.2 codebase with no fork left to maintain, and deleted 715k lines; my training on it earned CTO and founder recognition

Career break, travel: Asia, North America & South America

Dec 2023 - Dec 2024

Senior Software Engineer · dev tooling and CI lead·Hivebrite

Aug 2020 - Dec 2023

Fast-growing community SaaS: 600+ communities in 4 regions, the largest serving 1M+ users.

  • Doubled deploys (2 to 4 a week) and halved build times (15-20 to 7-10 min) for 40 engineers, with a CI pipeline generator that skipped unneeded suites
  • Cut the CI bill €160k a year (8-11% of the infrastructure budget) by migrating from Semaphore to Buildkite
  • Cut data exports 98% (24h to 15-45 min) for 1M+ user communities, clearing hundreds of support tickets and the churn risk behind them
  • Cut onboarding from 2+ days to about an hour through automated setup, returning roughly 80 developer days a year
  • Made the case for and led the Ruby 3 and Rails 7 upgrade across 40 developers: zero downtime, no feature freeze
  • Worked directly with the CTO on architecture; designed 5-tier on-call escalation and the interview process; supported team growth from ~15 to 40 developers

Skills

Production AI pipelines (evals, structured output), Ruby/Rails, Python, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Terraform, API design, Performance & cost optimisation, CI/CD, Technical writing, Team training

Projects

A newsroom that runs itself: three dozen feeds from about 30 outlets, 500+ articles a day, and no human edits any issue. The model never sees a URL, so nothing it writes can smuggle a link in, and an LLM-as-judge gate re-checks every headline against its sources before send. Unattended since January 2026, a few dollars a run, with cost, source health and every failure public on a live stats page.

Fixes where Ruby systems fail under streaming and fibers: fiber-safe hub storage shipped in Sentry's Ruby SDK 6.7.0, plus merged fixes in NextDNS's Go resolver, Rack and RuboCop.

Dispatch (Human-in-the-Loop Agent Platform)Private

Mar 2026 - Present

Back-office workflows for regulated businesses, run under a human gate. Autonomy bands decide what waits for a signature, and code fills every figure and deadline, so a letter cannot invent a number. Temporal owns every lifecycle; Postgres row-level security isolates each tenant. Rehearsed end to end; not yet in production.
