Pastebin, but yours.
Code sharing inside WordPress.

SnipShare turns any WordPress site into a code-sharing platform like GitHub Gist or Pastebin - but self-hosted, on your domain, integrated with BuddyPress and bbPress. Multi-file pastes. Twenty-plus languages. Version history with diffs. Members' code stays on your server.

  • 20+syntax languages
  • 3visibility levels
  • $49/yr, or $149 once
  • 0third-party scripts

Four surfaces, one plugin

Different people, different paths. Same paste library.

Members create + share + fork pastes. Other members find them via archive, tag, or BuddyPress feed. Owners enable community integrations + tune permissions. All four surfaces are documented at store.wbcomdesigns.com/snipshare/docs.

All tiers · Create

For: Site member

You paste, share, version

Create a paste with one file or many. Syntax-highlight in 20+ languages. Pick visibility (public, unlisted or private) and add a password, burn after read or expiry if you need them. Every save = a tracked revision with diff.

  1. Create a paste Title, language, one or more files
  2. Pick visibility Public / Unlisted / Private, plus burn
  3. Syntax-highlighted URL /paste/<hash>/ on your domain
  4. Edit + auto-revision Every save tracked + diff-able
  5. Share + copy Direct link, raw URL, ZIP download

All tiers · Community

For: Other members

Forks + stars + tags

Members find pastes via archive, tag, or BuddyPress feed. Fork to iterate, star to bookmark, tag to classify. To discuss a paste, link it in a forum reply or activity post.

  1. Browse + filter Public archive, tag pages, search
  2. Star to bookmark Personal starred list per member
  3. Fork into your account Clone any public paste, iterate
  4. Side-by-side diff See exactly what changed between versions
  5. Link it anywhere Paste URLs embed in activity and replies

Personal and up · BuddyPress + bbPress

For: Site owner

Pastes become first-class community objects

BuddyPress: a Pastes tab on member profiles (My Pastes, Starred), and paste URLs auto-embed in activity. bbPress: oEmbed previews plus an Insert Paste button on topic and reply forms.

  1. Enable integrations BuddyPress + bbPress toggles in Settings
  2. Profile Pastes tab Member profile shows their library
  3. Activity autoembed Paste URLs in activity render inline
  4. oEmbed previews Drop a paste URL in any reply
  5. Insert Paste button Pick a recent paste in topic and reply forms

Developer and up · Moderation

For: Site administrator

You moderate + tune permissions

Admin screens list every paste and the reported-paste queue. Role defaults come from the WordPress Abilities API, a per-user hourly cap limits new pastes, and feature toggles switch expiration, burn, forking, stars and more on or off.

  1. Reported pastes queue Review + act on member reports
  2. Role abilities Create, fork, moderate, collections
  3. Hourly cap New pastes per user per hour
  4. Feature toggles Enable / disable each capability
  5. Admin paste manager Manage every paste site-wide

How it works

Live in under 5 minutes.

  1. 01

    Install the plugin

SnipShare downloads from the wbcomdesigns.com store after purchase. The setup wizard sets default visibility and the editor and code themes, and can add sample pastes.

  2. 02

    Create your first paste

Visit /pastes/create/. Title, description, language, code editor with syntax highlighting. Multi-file pastes for grouped snippets. Set visibility + expiration + password if needed.

  3. 03

    Customize + scale

Settings panels for features, appearance themes and the BuddyPress and bbPress integrations. Developer adds revision diffs, the REST API, an hourly paste cap and the moderation queue.

Built for code-shaped content

Everything Pastebin and Gist have, on your own WordPress.

CodeMirror editor, 20+ syntax languages, multi-file pastes, revision history with diffs, three visibility levels, BuddyPress + bbPress integration, REST API, oEmbed, shortcodes. One WordPress plugin, from $49 a year or $149 once.

  • Multi-file pastes

One paste, multiple files - like GitHub Gist. Each file gets its own syntax language, filename, and tab in the rendered view.

  • 20+ syntax languages

CodeMirror-based editor with PHP, JS, TS, Python, Ruby, Go, Rust, SQL, YAML, JSON, CSS, HTML, Markdown, and more.

  • Three visibility levels

Public (in the archive), Unlisted (link only) and Private (owner only). Any paste can also take a password, burn after its first view, or expire on a timer.

  • Revision history + diff

Every edit is version-tracked. Compare versions side by side, per file.

  • Forking + starring + tagging

Fork any public paste into your own account. Star to bookmark. Tag for browse-by-topic. /pastes/tag/<slug>/ archive pages.

  • Collections

Named bundles of related pastes - public or private. Useful for tutorials, runbook archives, team libraries. Browse via /pastes/collection/<user>/<slug>/.

  • BuddyPress + bbPress

BuddyPress members get a Pastes tab on their profile (My Pastes, Starred), and paste URLs auto-embed in activity. bbPress forums get an Insert Paste button and oEmbed previews in replies.

  • Developer tier: hooks + REST API

Full REST API for paste CRUD. Shortcode + oEmbed for embedding. Hooks + filters across the lifecycle. Bulk import through the REST API.

  • GDPR-friendly + self-hosted

No third-party trackers. No IP storage by default. Pastes live in your WordPress database. Member code never leaves your server.

Compare

Every alternative makes you compromise. SnipShare doesn't.

Alternative What you give up SnipShare
GitHub Gist embeds Third-party scripts, Google ranks gist.github.com (not your domain) for the code Self-hosted. Same UX. Google ranks YOUR domain for the code.
Pastebin (free tier) Ad-supported, private and unlisted pastes capped on free accounts, US-jurisdiction data Self-hosted, ad-free, private-by-default if you configure it.
Custom CPT + ACF + CodeMirror 2-4 weeks engineering for paste CRUD, fork, version history, syntax highlighting. Then you own maintenance. Five-minute install. Same features, ongoing updates from a team.
Notion / Obsidian code blocks Code blocks are second-class. No fork, no diff, no syntax across languages, no shareable URL outside the workspace. Code-first archive with proper highlighting + diff + shareable URLs.

When one site is not enough

Developer adds revision diffs, the REST API, an hourly paste cap and the moderation queue.

Personal handles the full paste workflow, collections and the BuddyPress integration on one site. Developer covers five sites and adds the parts you need once other people are posting: revision history you can diff, the REST API with oEmbed for forums, an hourly cap on new pastes, and a queue for what gets reported.

Common questions

Quick answers before you commit.

How much does SnipShare cost?

SnipShare is a paid plugin with no free tier. Personal is $49 a year or $149 once for a lifetime licence and covers one site, and it already includes multi-file pastes, 20+ language syntax highlighting, three visibility levels with password, burn after read and expiry, BuddyPress integration and collections. Developer at $79 a year adds revision history with diffs, the REST API, an hourly paste cap and the moderation queue across five sites. Every tier carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Does it require BuddyPress or bbPress?

No. SnipShare works as a standalone code-sharing platform on any WordPress install. BuddyPress and bbPress integrations are optional - they turn pastes into first-class community objects (profile tabs, activity embeds, forum embeds) but the core paste workflow runs without them.

How is this different from GitHub Gist?

Gist is hosted by GitHub on gist.github.com. SnipShare runs on YOUR WordPress site at yourdomain.com/paste/<hash>/. Same UX (multi-file, syntax highlighting, fork, star) but the code is on your domain - Google ranks YOUR site for the code, the URL never breaks if your GitHub account changes, no third-party tracking, no rate limits on the Gist API.

How is this different from Pastebin?

Pastebin is a hosted service. Your pastes live on their servers, next to their ads, and private or unlisted pastes are capped on free accounts. SnipShare gives you the same workflow (expiration, password, burn-after-read) on your own WordPress install. Zero ads, zero tracking, private by default if you set it that way, and the code is yours forever.

Can I import existing pastes from Gist or Pastebin?

Yes via the REST API. POST to /wp-json/snipshare/v1/pastes with a title and a files array (files[0][content], files[0][language]) and loop a curl script over your Gist or Pastebin export. For small migrations, the create form works fine.

How do the three tiers differ?

Personal is $49 a year for one site, Developer $79 a year for five sites, and Agency $149 a year for unlimited sites. Lifetime licences are $149, $199 and $399. Personal covers the paste workflow, collections and BuddyPress. Developer adds revision diffs, the REST API, an hourly paste cap and the moderation queue. Agency adds unlimited client sites and priority support. Every purchase includes a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Can I try SnipShare before buying?

Yes. Spin up the InstaWP sandbox for a pre-configured WordPress install with SnipShare already activated, so you can test collections and the BuddyPress integration before spending anything. Every purchase also carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Does it work for private team intranets?

Yes. Put the whole site behind a login or membership plugin first, because SnipShare lets guests read public and unlisted pastes. Then use Public for the team library and Private for personal notes, which only their author can read. Developers can narrow who creates pastes through the user_has_cap filter. Pair with Cloudflare Access if you want zero-trust on top. SnipShare itself never calls out to third-party services.

Will it work with my theme?

Yes. SnipShare uses WordPress core templating and inherits your active theme styles. Check a paste page on your own theme before you launch. The CodeMirror editor and paste-detail views ship their own CSS, so syntax highlighting is consistent across themes.

Who is behind SnipShare?

Wbcom Designs - WordPress agency since 2013. 4.7/5 on Trustpilot from 90+ reviews. We ship community + commercial WordPress plugins (BuddyX, Reign, Jetonomy, WPMediaVerse, WP Career Board, WB Ad Manager, WP Sell Services) plus AI workflows for enterprise teams.
