My rough understanding is that LLMs have been trained via reinforcement learning on “reasoning” tasks like math and programming where the outcome is verifiable. How much does this paradigm lead to generalization to reasoning in the messy real world? Empirically, I find it doesn’t

Knowing when to optimize is a key skill that differentiates senior technical leaders. Optimizing too late leads to obvious slowdowns due to friction/tech debt, but pre-mature optimization also slows you down. There's a delicate timing that takes experience and instinct to hit
