@simonw Your recent post on Python deprecation warnings reminded me of a useful practice we've developed at work: adding a tiny pytest snippet which fails CI on warnings, and then documenting the ones we silence: github.com/bennettoxford/… github.com/opensafely-cor…

We're hiring! I cannot overstate the satisfaction of working on stuff that matters (improving healthcare, scientific openness, protecting patient privacy) with brilliant, lovely people in a high-autonomy environment. Immediately stop what you're doing and come and work with us.

This is the thing I've been working on for what feels approximately like forever, but is finally being used for real in the wild. The hardest and most fun code I've ever written:

HEALTH DATA GEEKS! We have developed a portable language for electronic health record data preparation, to meet our needs (for our federated analyses across 58m patients' GP data!) but also to be terse, composable, readable, and.. constrained BUT flexible bennett.ox.ac.uk/blog/2023/09/w…

@teagermylk Hey there, just wondered if you'd seen this issue and could confirm either way if this was you? github.com/tmylk/yearly_p… If so, we can send you an entire copy of our database more easily than you can scrape it :)

Among the many lessons here is the extraordinary power of small, mixed teams: developers, clinicians, academics (or all 3 in 1 like @dr_c_morton!) working closely together and learning from one another. There's no way this could have been achieved on these timescales otherwise.

In normal circumstances, obtaining permission to look at sensitive health data would take months or years. A new team has gone from idea to publication in just 42 days econ.trib.al/KmxxzLQ
