How Mosquitoes Develop Very High Levels of Insecticide Resistance and threaten Public health
A recent study by the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of FORTH reveals the genetic mechanisms that enhance mosquito resistance to insecticides
The study was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), with Dr. Linda Grigoraki and PhD candidate Mengling Chen, from the Molecular Entomology group at IMBB-FORTH, as leading authors.
New study uncovers a mechanism that protects the nervous system during ageing and promotes longevity
Research at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), published as a featured article in the international scientific journal Nature Communications, reveals a previously unknown cellular mechanism that contributes to the maintenance of neural function and promotes longevity. The research team is led by Professor Nektarios Tavernarakis and includes Dr. Aggeliki Sotiriou and Dr. Georgios Konstantinidis.

Using aircraft and satellite observations, FORTH maps the materials, three-dimensional structure and surface temperature of Heraklion
On 9 and 10 September 2026, the Remote Sensing Lab (https://rslab.gr) of the Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), as part of its research on urban overheating and heat stress, collected very high spatial resolution airborne hyperspectral imagery and LiDAR data over Heraklion, in collaboration with AeroPhoto Co Ltd, which operated the flights. The campaign was conducted as part of the Urbisphere project, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), which investigates the interaction between cities and climate by combining observations, models, and information on population exposure and vulnerability.
