Why take three days for this?

Bring a real challenge. Give it your full attention.

Better judgment about AI

Examine capabilities, limits and human-centered design. Get past the demo to the questions that matter when a system enters real work.

A stronger basis for decisions

Explore governance, data ownership and public policy. Bring a live challenge from your organization and test your thinking against other disciplines.

New approaches to creative work

See how artists, filmmakers and researchers work with AI, and where they insist on human authorship. Consider what those choices mean for your own practice.

Expense it

Make the case to your team.

Ask for the ticket budget and time to attend. Connect the program to a decision your team needs to make, then bring back a 20-minute briefing with three recommendations for your work.

Hi [manager name],

I'd like approval to attend Futureproof Festival, October 28-30, 2026, at H.R. MacMillan Space Centre in Vancouver, using our professional-development budget and work time for the October 29 and 30 program days.

Our team is making decisions about [AI tools, data or governance challenge]. The program brings together AI research, human-centered design, governance and creative practice. I want to examine that challenge through talks, audience questions and perspectives beyond our own industry.

My learning priorities are to evaluate AI capabilities and limits, understand data ownership and governance, and identify approaches relevant to our work. The sessions I would prioritize are [choose sessions from the learning guide and explain their relevance].

Learning guide: https://www.futureproof.website/professional-development/
Program: https://www.futureproof.website/program/

Cost is one festival ticket: CA$950. It includes opening night on October 28, both program days and the closing party. Any travel or accommodation would need a separate budget.

Refunds have closed. If plans change, the ticket can transfer to a teammate without a fee. Transfer requests are accepted from September 1 through October 27, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific.
Ticket terms: https://www.futureproof.website/terms/

Within one week of returning, I'll share a short team briefing: 20 minutes, three recommendations for our work, and one practical next step to assess. I'll distinguish ideas worth testing from claims that need more evidence.

Please approve the ticket budget and attendance during work hours.

Is there a group or corporate discount?

Yes. Group pricing is available for teams of five or more on the same booking; it's handled directly rather than through a public code. Email [email protected] with how many tickets you need and who they are for, and we'll sort you out. One piece of advice from running these before: teams get more out of it when they split up during the day and compare notes at night, rather than moving through the festival as a block.

Are all venues wheelchair accessible?

The festival is anchored at H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, and the venue's public information lists accessible entry and accessible washrooms. We will publish seating, room routing, and mobility notes closer to the festival. Email [email protected] with specific needs before the festival so routing, seating, and support can be planned around you.

Attendee guide →

Will sessions be captioned?

Captioning is not confirmed yet. If captions, a transcript, or other access support would change your day, email [email protected] before the event and we will reply.

Does the festival have a Code of Conduct?

Yes. See /code-of-conduct. It covers all festival spaces, evening events, and online spaces. It applies equally to everyone at the festival: ticket holders, speakers, sponsors, and organizers.

The experience behind the festival

Challenging ideas. Useful connections.

Futureproof Festival grows out of Vancouver AI and BC + AI. These are reflections on earlier meetups, BC + AI courses and guest teaching, with the original context credited below each quote.

“… I was probably more impressed by the speakers who disturbed me than the ones I agreed with. This conversation is so important, and yet too limited in our everyday lives. …”

Gus SantosVancouver AI Meetup #10 · October 2024

“Two things can be true at once. AI is here and I'm going to keep enabling it across our teams. And it can be done responsibly, with humans first, by people who treat that as the actual job rather than a disclaimer at the bottom of a deck.”

Kerris HougardyTing InternetResponsible AI Professional · Cohort 1

“Kris helped shift how my design students see their future. In one hour, he demo'd building client prototypes in real-time, turned lectures into podcasts, and showed them how to be design orchestrators, not pixel pushers.”

Jai DjwaAgentic Digital MediaDesign educator · Guest teaching

“The course delivers very important insights into risks of large scale AI deployments. … Highly recommended for anyone who has a stake in the responsible use of PII data, environmental impact, and good governance of AI projects.”

“FWIW, the BC + AI Ecosystem, of which I'm a member, is different than any other AI group I'm aware of — full of artists and creatives, filmmakers and indigenous voices, as well as deep tech experts and entrepreneurs. It holds space for both wonder and scepticism around AI without veering too far one way or the other.”

“… The interactive format and tight-knit atmosphere fostered real connections—and I even lucked into meeting the perfect collaborator for my AI project.”

“So pleased to have completed this course, the guidance was amazing, and the final capstone was a chance to explore responsible AI. If you want to round out your understanding of ethics, and responsible AI, this is well worth the time.”
