FYI - Impersonation emails to clients. We have been alerted to some of our customers being contacted by an email account impersonating Ackama this week. The emails we have seen have come from an unauthorised Gmail.com account and appear to be “CEO Breccan Mcleod-Lundy” highlighting updates and offering website services. We are unsure of the scale and number of clients receiving these messages - they may be approaching clients who are listed in our published case studies. Please be aware of any unexpected or strange messages over the next few days, and check emails are being sent to you from an approved “name@ackama.com” domain. Please would you forward any messages you receive to hello@ackama.com which will allow us to understand the nature of these messages. Creating accessible public services is a shared responsibility across government. The Government Digital Delivery Agency is consulting on a new Digital Accessibility Standard that will help ensure accessibility is considered across all digital technology, not just websites. While the current Web Accessibility Standard applies only to websites and web apps, the proposed standard is expected to apply across all information and communication technology. This includes documents, software and hardware. The new standard would support a more consistent approach to accessibility across government and help make digital information and services more accessible for all New Zealanders. Consultation on the draft standard is now open and closes at 5pm on Friday 7 August. Information is available in a range of alternate formats. Earlier this month I had the pleasure of hosting the first in what we hope will become a regular Ackama Melbourne community event, bringing together clients, partners, friends, and others from our network for an evening of drinks, conversation, and shared learning. For our inaugural event, we were fortunate to be joined by Dotahn Caspi from the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, who shared insights from his experience leading the development of dib, an AI-powered chatbot designed to help people access trusted, evidence-based alcohol and drug information. As AI becomes increasingly embedded in our everyday lives, the conversation is shifting from "Can we use AI?" to "How should we use AI?" Dotahn spoke about the opportunities AI presents for improving access to information and services, while also highlighting the importance of transparency, trust, governance, and human oversight - particularly in health contexts where accuracy and safety matter. I loved hearing about how organisations can embrace innovation without losing sight of the people they're designing for. A huge thank you to Dotahn for sharing his expertise and experiences so openly & generously, and to everyone who joined us for a thoughtful and engaging discussion. We are absolutely thrilled to win the Open Source category at the recent DrupalSouth Splash Awards for our work on the Drupal Security Advisories OSV project. Hosting the wider region’s incredible Drupal community in our own backyard made for an unforgettable few days of conference and community building. OSV - Improving Security for Open Source projects Our involvement with OSV began as an open-source contribution from Gareth Jones as his work with Ackama's security policies grew into a proud Ackama partnership. In the award, Ackama collaborated with the Drupal Security Team and OSV (an open-source vulnerability database project supported by Google). Real-World Impact for Enterprise & Government Security Coverage By bridging the gap between Drupal and the OSV ecosystem, this project delivers tangible security benefits to the wider web ecosystem: Automated Security Monitoring, Better Workflows for Teams to Track and Respond to Vulnerabilities, Transparent monitoring that works across all applications across different tech ecosystems. Open Source is in Our DNA For over 15 years, Ackama has benefited from open-source technologies.
