At least this one did ❤️ About 10 years ago, I was just listening to a voice on YouTube, hoping that someday I'd get a chance to simply say Thank You. First, I got to see him on YouTube instead of just hearing his voice. Then I got a chance to interact with him virtually. One thing was still pending... Meeting him in person. Then the community event was announced. I was excited and little worried at same time. Excited because I happened to be in Bangalore that very day. Worried because I had my own professional commitments. Then the timing was announced 7 PM. Suddenly, there was a hope. Now came the final challenge... Bangalore traffic in peak hours. My colleague advised me to opt for Rapido in case I want to be on time. I took the advice but the problem was... he was actually driving like F1 taking wrong side even in front of Traffic police. I spent the entire ride praying not because we were getting late, but because I wanted both of us to reach the venue in one piece. 😂 : Somehow, against all odds, we made it there 10 minutes before Google Maps estimated time. And then... I finally met Siddhant Pandey and Dhaval Patel Sir. The biggest surprise? Both of them recognised me. The first one hour after meeting them, I was just smiling. I genuinely don't know why. I was bouncing from inside & it just wouldn't stop. Maybe that's what happens when a wish you've carried for almost a decade finally comes true. Getting the chance to personally thank someone who unknowingly played a role in your journey is a feeling that's hard to describe. Dhaval Patel Sir, if I said anything random or completely out of context in the first few minutes, please forgive me 🙏 . My brain was still busy processing the fact that I was actually with you in person 🙂

Vijaydeep Sinha posted thisJust came across something interesting: HTTP now has a new request method called QUERY. For years, we've had two common options: ✅ GET - Perfect for fetching data. - But complex filters often turned into huge, unreadable query parameters. I've lost count of how many times I copied the URL into notepad just to understand it. ✅ POST - Lets you send a request body. - But using it for read-only operations always felt more like a workaround than the right semantic choice. That's where QUERY comes in. It keeps the safe, idempotent nature of GET while allowing us to send the query in the request body. A small addition to HTTP, but one that solves a problem backend engineers have lived with for years. Curious to see how quickly frameworks and API gateways adopt it. Vijaydeep Sinha liked thisVijaydeep Sinha liked thisThank you to The Linux Foundation and the Agentic AI Foundation for a really well-run event last week in Japan, and for the chance to talk about the Skills Over MCP extension that many MCP contributors have been designing and building together for the last ~6 months. I had so many good conversations with people about this and other topics in between my 2 to 3-hour jetlag 'naps.' 😁 It was also extremely nice to come back from Tokyo to find that we now have an official Skills Over MCP docs section and conformance tests, plus support in the Inspector. 👏 (see docs links in comments.) SDK support and MCP host updates are incoming. Special thanks to Peter Alexander Sambhav Kothari Clifford Hall Sriram (Sri) Panyam for the big push to get the last few PRs merged to move this SEP to Final. I'm really blown away by all the work from the MCP contributor community to get the extension released. P.S. Sadly I couldn't get my print zine edition of my talk fully ready in time for Tokyo (pictured) although I got a few proofs together late on Friday afternoon. If you'd like some educational MCP memorabilia inspired by Julia Evans' Wizard Zines, let me know and I'll figure out how to get you one! I'll have a few on me in Amsterdam.

The founding team is a couple of young folks whose coding life started with Claude Code. They relied on AI too much and eventually the product became buggy. Now they fix one issue and it creates a new problem somewhere else. They have done it so much time and now they are tired, he came to me asking for an advice. My advice was simple: Human + AI is still better than AI alone. For production-grade systems, you still need seasoned engineers who can make architectural decisions, understand trade-offs, and validate what AI builds. AI may reduce the need for task-oriented developers. But strong engineers who can think in systems are becoming even more valuable.

Vijaydeep Sinha liked thisVijaydeep Sinha liked this12 crore spent on sales experiments. Zero campus placements. ₹7,000 salary. 31 failed patent attempts. This is my best résumé ever! Most résumés are designed to show what worked. This one is about what didn’t. The decisions that went wrong. The ideas that failed. The money that did not produce the outcome we expected. And the weaknesses I am still working on. I think careers look very different when you remove hindsight. While you are living through them, there is no neat story. There is uncertainty, rejection, poor judgment and plenty of trial and error. I have had more than my fair share of all four. Some failures taught me persistence. Some taught me focus. Some simply taught me what not to do again. None of them felt useful while they were happening. But today, I can see how much they shaped the way I think and lead. We spent years watching edtech founders explain how they'd "revolutionize learning." Turns out the real lesson was in depreciation. The NCLT had to step in and say "wait, this math doesn't add up" - which is ironic for an education company. If your startup's exit strategy is "let someone buy our office furniture for the price of a used Innova," maybe the unit economics were never going to work out. At least the students learned something. Just not from the platform.

🎬 The underrated hero of streaming apps: the Search button We binge, we scroll, we get recommendations — but when we know what we want, the search bar becomes the real MVP. This week, I ran the same searches across Netflix, JioHotstar, and Amazon Prime. From a user’s seat, it felt simple. From an engineer’s seat, it told a bigger story. 🔴 Netflix — type two letters and it’s already surfacing what I meant. Rarely a dead end. 🔵 JioHotstar — great if you’re chasing a match or a team. Search outside live sports feels like an afterthought. 🟠 Amazon Prime — hit or miss. Sometimes exactly what I wanted, sometimes a scroll through titles I never asked for. From an engineer’s seat, this didn’t feel like polish or bugs — it felt like three teams making different bets: → Netflix: search feels sharp because it’s likely powered by the same engine driving the whole app. → JioHotstar: tuned for live sports, where millions hit one match at once — that’s where the real load is. → Prime: covering a vast catalog, so a few rough edges are the trade‑off for scale. The reminder I carry into my own work: 👉 You can’t make every part of a system equally perfect. 👉 You invest where the stakes are highest, and keep the rest solid but simple. Good search isn’t just a feature. It’s an engineering trade-off, made visible. #SystemDesign #DistributedSystems #StaffEngineer #Streaming

One thing your manager will never tell you Your promotion depends less on your performance and more on whether your team is actually growing. When I joined Amazon as an SDE-1, my team had 25 people. By the time I became Senior, it had 120+. Looking back, my “fast promotion” wasn’t magic. The org was expanding like crazy and growth creates opportunity. Here is the part people don’t like hearing: ❌ If your team hasn’t grown in years, your career won’t either. ❌ It doesn’t matter how good you are. There is nowhere to go. ❌ The only real path up becomes waiting for someone above you to leave. So if you want to grow faster: Choose teams that are growing. Not teams that are comfortable. Skills matter. Environment matters more.
