Media giant Discovery has announced a long-term renewal of its multi-territory broadcast partnership with the French Tennis Federation (FFT) for the Roland-Garros Grand Slam tournament.

Commencing in 2022, the new five-year contract will leverage Discovery’s pan-European sports network Eurosport, the Discovery+ streaming product and its free-to-air channels throughout the continent. The deal covers more than 50 territories, excluding France, where Amazon and the France Télévisions public service network show the tournament.

In 2021, the French Open has been available to watch in Denmark, Finland, Italy, Norway and Sweden on Discovery+ for the first time as the streaming platform continues to expand the rollout of its sports offering.

Andrew Georgiou, president, Eurosport and Discovery’s global sports rights and sports marketing services, said: “Our relationship with Roland-Garros spans many years and during that time we have consistently delivered ever increasing viewership and engagement as the trusted partner of the FFT.

“Our coverage is recognised for reaching the widest audience by harnessing the greatest expertise and the most innovative technology, and by committing to a renewed long-term partnership with the FFT, we will continue to bring world-class tennis from Roland-Garros to millions of fans each year across Europe.”

Discovery has also added the Professional Triathletes Organisation’s (PTO) Collins Cup to its Eurosport and Discovery+ offering. It has agreed a one-year deal, with an option for an additional two, for August’s Ryder Cup-style event that covers all of its active European territories.

Eurosport will also air live Collins Cup action and highlights across Asia Pacific with highlights distribution in India. This contract, however, is non-exclusive.
