- Browse pixiv here. Downloading illustrations and signing in happen in the Mac app.
- Playlist settings are a preview here. In the Mac app, wallpapers change automatically while playing.
- Downloads need the Mac app and a Steam account that owns Wallpaper Engine. Browse the Workshop here.
- That one needs the app on your Mac, where your files, Finder and Steam are.
- This page lists wallpapers rated Everyone only.
- Applied. In the app the wallpaper redraws with these settings; the website preview stays the same.
- On. In the app it listens to what your Mac plays; this page hears nothing.

Good to know.
A few things before your change of scenery.
What is WallpaperMachine?
WallpaperMachine is a native macOS client for Wallpaper Engine wallpapers. It brings scene, video, and web wallpapers to your desktop, with Steam Workshop browsing and downloads built in.
Can I use Wallpaper Engine on a Mac?
Wallpaper Engine itself is made for Windows. WallpaperMachine is an independent Mac app built to play its scene, video, and web wallpapers, with Steam Workshop browsing built in; compatibility varies by wallpaper. It is not affiliated with Wallpaper Engine or Valve. More in Wallpaper Engine on a Mac.
Do I need a Windows PC?
No. WallpaperMachine browses the Steam Workshop on your Mac and downloads from it through Valve’s SteamCMD, which also fetches the shared resources scene wallpapers need. No Windows program ever runs.
Do I need to own Wallpaper Engine?
You can browse the Workshop without signing in. Workshop downloads require a Steam account that owns Wallpaper Engine, and scene wallpapers need shared resources from a purchased Wallpaper Engine installation. The bundled video wallpaper, Aurora Drift, plays without either. How downloads work: Steam Workshop on a Mac.
Is WallpaperMachine free?
Yes. The signed download is free, and the complete source is on GitHub under the GPL-2.0 license. Becoming a Supporter adds a sponsor place on this site and in the README, plus priority support. It unlocks nothing in the app: the app is the same with or without it.
Which Macs is it built for?
WallpaperMachine is built for Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 15 Sequoia or later. The animated lock screen needs macOS 26 Tahoe or later. Intel Macs aren't supported.
Will every wallpaper work?
WallpaperMachine supports scene, video, and web rendering. Compatibility varies by wallpaper; support for these formats does not mean every Workshop item will render identically.
Can I set a different wallpaper on each display?
Yes. Every display gets its own wallpaper, or mirrors another, with its own scaling, frame rate and volume. A display you connect for the first time starts with the main display’s wallpaper.
What happens on battery?
You decide. On battery WallpaperMachine can pause, or drop to a render scale and frame rate you choose; both are off until you turn them on. A covered display stops its own wallpaper, and sleep or lock pauses them all.
Can wallpapers react to my music?
Yes, wallpapers made for sound can. Turn on Audio response and they move with what your Mac plays; turn on Media integration and ones with a music display show the song that’s on. More in wallpapers that move with your music.
Can it animate the lock screen?
Yes, as an experiment. Settings → General → Animate lock screen lets a video or scene wallpaper play on the lock screen too. It is off by default and relies on private macOS interfaces that an update can change. More in a live wallpaper on your lock screen.
Can I bring the wallpapers I already have?
Yes. Import brings in the Wallpaper Engine folders you already have. The app copies them into its library and leaves the originals alone.
How do I get it?
Download the signed build free from the latest release on GitHub, or build it from the source. Become a Supporter for a sponsor place on this site and in the README, plus priority support; see pricing. The install guide walks through the first launch.
Can I pay with Alipay or WeChat Pay?
Yes, when you visit from China. Checkout offers payment methods by IP address, so Alipay and WeChat Pay appear only on a connection from a Chinese IP. If you use a VPN or proxy, turn it off before you check out.
