I love lab robotics. I also hate AI in bio that has ZERO validation. Wouldn’t it be cool if we could use robots to autonomously do REAL experiments? Im makin a cloud lab that doesn’t suck. Low capex, starting small, but making it god damn useful and god damn programmable

I visited Jake’s lab a hot minute ago. I knew they were gonna make it when they had a massive ass CNC machine blocking the warehouse door because they barely had space. Can’t fucking wait

1/ Biological threats can bring a country to a halt without a single shot being fired. Yet much of our biodefense infrastructure has barely changed in decades, even as America’s institutions produce extraordinary scientific breakthroughs.

Testing a new sequencing method for building clonal plasmids. Lots to improve- current plasmid success rate (through all stages - amp, assembly, transformation, picking, miniprep, sequencing) with 2 colonies is 67%. Total pipeline cost is around $7, including sequencing

This is something we’ve been working on for a bit! At current error rates for 1kbp, we gotta pick 4 colonies. 384 lets us process 96 plasmids per day off one work cell (we also have error correction experiments running) Oligo pool -> plating ~6hr Colony picking ~1.5hr (off deck)
