From 28th October, apps targeting Android 17 need to justify broad contacts or location permissions. More info on our blog post here:
If your app on Google Play requests permissions to access a user's contact or precise location, Google now requires you to justify those permissions on Google Play directly. The deadline for this requirement is the 28th of October, 2026.

Quick heads up: Google Play has two deadlines landing on August 31, 2026, the Billing Library for apps with in-app payments, and the annual API level bump. If you're not sure where your app stands, we're happy to check.
If your app is on Google Play, two separate requirements land on the same day: August 31, 2026. One affects how you take payments, the other affects who can find your app on newer phones. Missing either doesn't take your app down immediately, but it blocks you from publishing updates and limits who can install it.

App owners should have received an email that US Play Store listings are going to third-party Android app stores next week by default, unless you change a setting.
Google is sharing Play Store listings with third-party US app stores from July 22. If you own an Android app, there's a preference to set in Play Console before then.

With WWDC and Google I/O over, it's time to start preparing your apps for what's coming. Here's what to look out for.
With the recent WWDC and Google I/O 2026, hundreds of announcements were made for developers. Most of it has no bearing on how your app runs or how it's perceived in the App Store or Play Store. Here's what does.
