Community guidelines

zap.ms is where Microsoft admins and practitioners talk about what is changing and how it is going. These rules apply here and in the discussions on Message Center Archive.

  1. 1

    Assume positive intent.

When you reply to someone, or react to news from Microsoft, start from the view that the other person means well. They may be tired, rushed, or writing in a second language. Ask before you assume the worst.

  2. 2

    Be polite and kind.

Disagree with the idea, not the person. People come here to help, learn and share, so please don't push them back out the door.

  3. 3

Criticise the product, not the people.

Frustration with a change is welcome and useful. Personal attacks on Microsoft staff, MVPs or other members are not.

  4. 4

    Limit self-promotion.

We want neighbours, not advertisers. Share your own blog, video or tool if you also take part in the community.

  5. 5

    No spam.

Don't post the same thing repeatedly, and keep posts relevant to Microsoft technology.

  6. 6

    No piracy or illegal activity.

That includes licence abuse, account sharing, and anything that breaks Microsoft's terms of service.

  7. 7

No harassment, hate speech, racism, sexism or trolling.

Accounts that do this are banned.

  8. 8

    No politics.

It never ends well. There are other places for it.

  9. 9

    No drama.

    Keep it about the technology.

If you see something that breaks these rules, flag it. A moderator will look. Removed replies are hidden, and repeat offenders lose their account.
