DataAgent Emerges From Stealth To Bring Autonomous Remediation to Kubernetes

DataAgent emerged from stealth today with $10 million in pre-seed funding and an agentic AI platform designed to fix production problems inside Kubernetes environments without waiting for a site reliability engineer to intervene.

The company describes its software as a remediation-first platform that acts as an autonomous SRE for Kubernetes and connected infrastructure. DataAgent runs inside cloud native control planes and integrates with existing observability tools as a lightweight overlay, the company said in a release. When a fault occurs, the platform’s agents can examine live system state, topology and configuration drift, identify the problem and take actions such as restarting, scaling or rolling back workloads.

That changes the usual order of incident response. Observability platforms typically alert engineers to a problem and provide telemetry to investigate it. DataAgent said its platform will restore service automatically when it recognizes a failure it can remediate and then perform deeper root cause analysis afterward.

Giving software permission to change production infrastructure is risky if the diagnosis is wrong. During onboarding, DataAgent runs a discovery phase to determine which categories of failures the software can safely remediate. It can act automatically on those known cases while sending unfamiliar problems to engineers. Customers can also route proposed actions through existing change management processes.

DataAgent said its platform can also prevent some failures before they reach production. The platform pairs a production remediation engine with a separate engine that analyzes changes before deployment and can block any that are likely to cause problems. The company said the two systems work as a continuous cycle, allowing the platform to learn from problems it prevents and incidents it resolves.

Processing telemetry inside the customer’s environment is another part of the architecture. Rather than routinely sending logs and metrics to an external service for analysis, DataAgent said it can inspect that data locally and forward selected information when deeper analysis is necessary. The company claims this can reduce observability costs. The in-cluster agent that performs this local work is open source and free to run standalone, with a paid SaaS tier for fleet management and orchestration.

MizMaa Ventures and Alicorn Venture Partners led today’s $10 million pre-seed round. DataAgent was founded in January of this year by CEO Ishay Yaari and CTO Nati Shalom, who previously worked together at cloud orchestration company Cloudify before Dell acquired it in 2023.

Shalom said they built DataAgent to act where operational data already resides and grant more autonomy only as the platform proves it can handle specific types of failures. DataAgent’s approach suggests cloud native operations could move beyond just observing incidents to software that can safely resolve more of them on its own.
