broadcom has always been alpha and is more trouble than it's worth. In the future we could target these SoCs with Zephyr.

Renode hasn't been used much and is replaced by the Zephyr native_sim.

Also remove ports/broadcom/firmware and ports/broadcom/peripherals entries from .gitmodules.

Docs CI is red and there are a few litex stragglers:

  • docs/supported_ports.rst still lists deleted READMEs
  • docs/shared_bindings_matrix.py still names three ports
  • Makefile keeps litex and clean-litex targets
  • TRANSLATE_SOURCES still has ports/renode
  • .github/actions/deps/ports/action.yml still sets up litex
  • .github/actions/deps/ports/litex/ can go
  • tools/ci_fetch_deps.py still has litex key

Also worth a line in the description that litex/fomu is going too, since the title only says broadcom and renode.

Drop the videocore.Framebuffer entry from the displayio docstring and the
broadcom, litex, and renode README entries from the supported ports
toctree. Both referenced files deleted in this PR.

The videocore module lived entirely in the broadcom port. Drop the flag
definition, source pattern, and the displayio framebuffer hooks for it.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <[email protected]>
Remove Broadcom from the UART RS485 limitations note and describe the
purpose of the objlist native_list() change instead of citing the port PR.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <[email protected]>
Drop the removed ports from the top-level Makefile targets and translation
sources, the README port list, the docs matrix, ci_fetch_deps, and the
ruff excludes.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <[email protected]>
Delete the orphaned litex toolchain action and its port dispatch and
arm-toolchain exclusion.

Thank you!

Anyone who wants to build CircuitPython for their own board is first
told to run fetch-all-submodules, which pulls the submodules of every
port. Measured on a checkout that has them all: 5.7 GB of git data, and
almost 20 GB before the broadcom port was removed in adafruit#11438. A
raspberry_pi_pico build touches 501 MB of it, about a tenth.

fetch-port-submodules and fetch-board-submodules already exist and do the
narrow thing, and CI uses the same resolver. They were just the second
option in the text, and the board one was not mentioned at all; `make help`
listed only the fetch-all target.

So this reorders the section to lead with the board target, keeps the port
one for people building several boards of a port, and leaves fetch-all for
people who really do build more than one port. No behaviour change.
