Enforce the LimitRange prerequisite. The linstor PackageSource does not depend on the package that provides the system LimitRange, and no such manifest exists in this repository. This chart therefore can deploy linstor-satellite without memory.max after removing its chart-defined limit. Add the deployment dependency, or retain a conditional chart limit until the prerequisite exists.

Aleksei Sviridkin (@lexfrei) this reverses the satellite sizing you approved in #3495, so flagging it rather than letting you find it in the diff. Your review recorded that the satellite, plunger and drbd-logger all carry limits, and The premise underneath that limit is not. It matters in the direction the sizing went, because a velero node-agent is here for a different reason but the same shape: its 2Gi came from a figure the comment itself labels idle, and kopia and restic scale with file count and volume size during a backup, which is exactly when the agent must not die. The narrative comments also come out of the rendered manifests, which was your MINOR on #3495 that did not make the merge. One more thing you raised, on #3496 rather than here: #3494's body claimed the tenant chart defaults container memory in every tenant namespace. |

NOT LGTM. Removing the limit is the right call. The reason given for it is not true of this container, and it is now written into the test suite as the account that cannot drift.
Container aware heap sizing only applies when max heap is not set explicitly. LINSTOR sets it explicitly. build.gradle:43-44 at the pinned v1.33.3:
def jvmSatelliteOpts = ["-Xms32M", "-Xmx2G", "-XX:+CrashOnOutOfMemoryError"]
def jvmControllerOpts = ["-Xms256M", "-Xmx8G", "-XX:+CrashOnOutOfMemoryError"]
It reaches the image. /usr/share/linstor-server/bin/Satellite:206 in piraeus-server:v1.6.0@sha256:70ddd1a6:
DEFAULT_JVM_OPTS='"-Xms32M" "-Xmx2G" "-XX:+CrashOnOutOfMemoryError"'
The operator sets JAVA_OPTS=-Djdk.tls.acknowledgeCloseNotify=true on that container and no heap flag, and the chart sets none either. Measured in that image under a 2Gi cgroup, OpenJDK 17.0.19:
no -Xmx : MaxHeapSize = 536870912 (512Mi) {ergonomic}
-Xmx2G : MaxHeapSize = 2147483648 (2Gi) {command line}
A 2Gi limit leaves the heap at 2G. No shrink, no GC thrash.
The real problem with 2Gi runs the other way and it is worse. The JVM is allowed to grow the heap to the whole container ceiling, while metaspace, thread stacks, code cache and GC structures sit outside that number. The container crosses memory.max before the heap fills, so the satellite takes a SIGKILL with no CrashOnOutOfMemoryError dump, on a healthy node, in the middle of a DRBD operation. 2Gi was the one value that must not be picked, because it equals -Xmx. 4Gi from #3494 clears it with room for the non heap side, which is why that direction is fine, but it does not cap the heap either.
Second thing: the satellite pod has no memory.max on main today anyway. The operator's base DaemonSet declares no resources at all and contributes drbd-reactor plus the setup-lvm-configuration init container, and satellites-talos.yaml deletes only drbd-shutdown-guard and drbd-module-loader. Kubelet needs every container and init container to declare a limit before it sets a pod level one. #3495 bought nothing here. That is the strongest argument for your change and the body does not make it.
velero is the opposite case. node-agent renders as one container with no init containers, so on main it does have memory.max today and this PR takes it away. The trade is defensible and I would probably make it too, but "no regression" is wrong for velero, and the mitigation points at a PR that is still open.
What I want changed: the heap account in tests/satellites_test.yaml and the pointer in satellites-cozy.yaml corrected to what the launcher does, with -Xmx2G recorded there since any future fitted limit has to start from it; what actually keeps the satellite pod in the victim set stated plainly; the velero half restated as a trade with a named cost. --system-namespace-memory-limit exists nowhere in the tree yet, so that sentence has to read as a dependency rather than as current behaviour.
The multus half is fine. Refetching v4.3.0, applying the patch at -p4 and running the release sed reproduces the committed template byte for byte apart from the image stamp, and a one line edit makes that comparison fail, so the check is not vacuous. Both notExists pins go red when the ceiling comes back, and the sibling equal assertions catch a renamed container, so neither pin passes against a path that stopped resolving.
Also checked: nothing else #3495 gave a limit to reads the cgroup to size itself. That covers the cilium agent and its init containers, virt-handler, kubevirt-csi-node, metallb speaker and the frr-k8s set, fluent-bit, node-exporter, multus-daemon and velero node-agent, and neither chart sets a heap or GOMEMLIMIT style knob on any of them.
Not blocking: none of the 14d peak numbers in either PR has an artifact attached, and the multus 1Gi rests on one of them. Worth linking the query once somewhere rather than repeating the figure per PR.

This branch gave linstor-controller a 10Gi memory limit, justified in the values and pinned in cluster_test.yaml on the grounds that the namespace default was 4Gi, half the -Xmx8G baked into the image. Both halves of that have moved. The default is now 32Gi, four times the heap ceiling rather than half of it, so nothing about the JVM requires a per-chart limit to sit above the namespace default any more. And #3824 argues the opposite direction for the same component -- extending the controller's existing limit-free exemption to linstor-satellite, using that exemption as its precedent. Keeping the 10Gi here would remove the precedent that PR reasons from, and whichever of the two merged second would silently invalidate the other's rationale. So linstor policy belongs to one PR, and it is not this one. The three files go back to their state on main; this branch is now confined to the operator and the installer chart. …roller The satellite sizing rested on a false premise. The comment claimed the satellite is "a Go binary with a bounded working set" and sized a 2Gi limit on that basis, but it is the same Java linstor-server distribution the controller runs: images/piraeus-server/Dockerfile installs default-jre-headless and this container starts with `startSatellite`, against the controller's `startController`. That matters in the direction the sizing went. A memory.max is not only an RSS ceiling on a JVM, it is what container-aware heap sizing reads, so a 2Gi limit yields a heap of roughly a quarter of that while the 368Mi peak behind the request is already whole-process RSS. On a storage node with a large DRBD resource count that trades a rare pressure-driven kill for an OutOfMemoryError or GC thrash mid-operation, which is exactly the failure linstor-controller is exempted to avoid. So the satellite now carries requests and no limit, the same call cluster_test.yaml already pins for the controller. The cost is explicit rather than implicit: with this container limit-free the pod cgroup gets no memory.max, so the pod stays in the Talos OOM handler's victim set and the plunger sidecar limits bound a runaway sidecar and nothing more. Closing that needs a peak measured on a high-resource-count cluster plus an explicit heap share, not a guessed ceiling. satellites_test.yaml pins the exemption with notExists on the limit, so re-adding a ceiling fails the suite rather than passing quietly. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Myasnikov Daniil <[email protected]>
The 2Gi ceiling was sized from the wrong number, as the comment beside it admitted: 121Mi is the 14-day peak at idle, and node-agent only consumes real memory while it is moving data, when kopia/restic walk, hash and index the volume's file tree. Demand there scales with file count and volume size on that node rather than with cluster size, so no measurement a 3-node dev cluster can produce bounds the case the limit has to cover. A guessed ceiling is worse than none on this workload. The kill it prevents happens only when the node is genuinely short of memory; the kill it introduces happens on a healthy node in the middle of a backup, the one moment the agent has to survive, and it lands on clusters whose large backups completed fine while node-agent was unlimited. Raising 2Gi to a larger guess moves the threshold without removing the failure mode or acquiring the evidence. So node-agent now carries requests and no limit, the same call linstor-controller and the satellite make. The ceiling is not dropped, it moves: the default LimitRange the operator maintains in every system namespace defaults container memory in cozy-velero, so the pod still gets memory.max and the number is tunable once, centrally, on a cluster whose backups need more. Before that LimitRange exists node-agent is limit-free and stays in the OOM handler's victim set, which is what it does today. Settling a fitted limit instead needs a peak measured under a PodVolumeBackup of a large, many-file volume on a real cluster. velero_test.yaml pins the exemption with notExists so a ceiling cannot come back quietly, and pins the cpu request that carried no assertion. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Myasnikov Daniil <[email protected]>
A `#` comment in a template is not stripped at render, so the twenty lines explaining the kube-multus limit were copied verbatim into the DaemonSet manifest of every cluster and would go stale the moment one of the numbers changed. The template now carries a one-line pointer and the reasoning lives in tests/multus_test.yaml, beside the assertions that pin the same values -- a file that cannot drift from them, because changing a value there means changing an assertion. Nothing about the rendered resources changes. The patch is regenerated rather than hand-edited, so the hunk offsets stay exact: reverse-apply the previous patch to recover the pristine upstream manifest, diff the edited template against it, and the result differs from the committed patch only in the comment lines and three `+` hunk headers. Applying the regenerated patch to that pristine file reproduces the committed template byte for byte, with no fuzz and no offset, so `make update` still lands where it did. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Myasnikov Daniil <[email protected]>
49d483c exempted the satellite from a memory limit for the right reason and then described the cost wrongly, in the direction that understates the change. Three places claimed that with the satellite container limit-free the pod cgroup gets no memory.max and the pod stays in the Talos OOM handler's victim set, full stop. That is only the picture without #3494. Its LimitRange, cozystack-system-defaults, defaults container memory in every system namespace from --system-namespace-memory-limit, 4Gi by default, so admission gives this container a limit of its own and the pod does get memory.max. The exemption therefore moves the ceiling from a 2Gi per-chart guess to one operator-facing knob rather than removing it, and the JVM derives its heap from 4Gi rather than from 2Gi. Since the PR body already requires #3494 to merge with or before this branch, the comments now name that dependency instead of implying the LimitRange is either unconditional or absent. The correction is narrower than it looks in one respect and wider in another. 4Gi still derives a capped heap, so it mitigates the heap-shrinking concern rather than eliminating it, and settling the sizing still needs a peak measured on a high-resource-count cluster plus an explicit heap share. But the plunger comment used the same false claim to argue the sidecar limits buy nothing at all, and they do bound a runaway sidecar at 128Mi rather than at whatever ceiling the pod would otherwise take. Wording follows the account velero/values.yaml and its suite already give for the node-agent exemption, so the branch carries one explanation of this mechanism rather than two. Comments only: no rendered value changes, and satellites_test.yaml still fails on a re-added ceiling. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Myasnikov Daniil <[email protected]>
Same treatment multus just had, and for the same reason: a `#` comment in a template is copied verbatim into the rendered LinstorSatelliteConfiguration in every cluster and goes stale the moment a number changes. The block attached to the satellite's resources stanza was 22 lines, all of it written on this branch, and it is the same kind of block multus carried. The template now carries what a reader needs at the point of decision and nothing more: that the container is deliberately limit-free, that it is a JVM and that linstor-controller is exempted for the same reason, where the full account lives, and the measured peak. The peak line stays in the manifest deliberately -- it is one line, it is a measurement, and it is what someone changing the request needs in front of them rather than one file away. The plunger block gets the same treatment at 9 lines down to 5, since most of what it grew to say was mechanism that reads better beside the assertions. Everything moved out was already in tests/satellites_test.yaml after the previous commit, with one exception now added there: that the satellite runs the same JVM is evidenced by images/piraeus-server/Dockerfile installing default-jre-headless and starting it with `startSatellite`. That is the evidence which overturned the sizing premise under review, so it belongs somewhere a reader can find it rather than only in a commit message. Comments only. No rendered value changes, and satellites_test.yaml still fails on a re-added ceiling. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Myasnikov Daniil <[email protected]>
The satellite exemption was justified with the claim that a container memory limit shrinks the JVM heap, on the grounds that a container-aware JVM reads memory.max to size it. That is not what this JVM does. linstor-server's build.gradle sets jvmSatelliteOpts to "-Xms32M", "-Xmx2G", "-XX:+CrashOnOutOfMemoryError" and hands it to the generated Satellite start script via defaultJvmOpts; the controller gets -Xmx8G by the same route. An explicit -Xmx means the JVM never consults memory.max for heap sizing, because container awareness only picks a default maximum when -Xmx is absent. LINSTOR_VERSION in the package Makefile pins which linstor-server that is, and images/piraeus-server/Dockerfile builds it. So a limit caps RSS and nothing else, which makes the removed limits.memory of 2Gi the wrong number rather than merely a tight one: 2Gi is exactly -Xmx2G, leaving nothing for metaspace, thread stacks, code cache, GC structures and direct buffers, so a satellite growing into its own heap ceiling would be OOM-killed by the kernel before the JVM got there. The 4Gi LimitRange default clears the 2G heap with room left for non-heap rather than "deriving a capped heap", and what a fitted per-chart limit still needs is a measured peak on a high-resource-count cluster, not an explicit heap share, which already exists. Comments only; no rendered output and no assertion changes. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Myasnikov Daniil <[email protected]>

Compare
The three files go back to their state on main; this branch is now confined to the operator and the installer chart. myasnikovdaniil NOT LGTM. The heap account is fixed now: b7fa98c records the baked-in -Xmx2G in both satellites-cozy.yaml and satellites_test.yaml, and explains why 2Gi was the wrong limit. linstor, velero and multus unit tests pass at this head (41/41). The other three points from my last review are still open, and the PR body and two commit bodies still carry the heap claim this commit corrects.
-
Velero still says "no regression". On main,
node-agentrenders as one container with a 2Gi limit and no init containers, so its pod hasmemory.maxtoday, and this PR removes it. Bothvelero/tests/velero_test.yaml("which is what it does today, so no regression") and the body of 52c5927 claim the pod is already in the victim set. Please describe it as a trade: this PR accepts that node-agent goes back into the victim set until a LimitRange defaults it, and in return it is not killed mid-backup on a healthy node. -
The LimitRange is still described as if it already exists.
--system-namespace-memory-limitis not in the tree; on main it appears only indocs/operations/system-memory-limits.md. The number is stale too.satellites_test.yamlsays "4Gi by default", but #3494 now defaults to 32Gi (DefaultSystemNamespaceMemoryLimitincmd/cozystack-operator/main.goon that branch). There is also a case where #3494 does not default at all: it withholds the LimitRange from any namespace that holds an oversized request or a foreign memory policy. "admission defaults this container" in the linstor suite and "the pod still gets memory.max" in the velero suite should read as conditional on #3494, without a number that can drift. -
The real reason the satellite pod has no
memory.maxon main is still not written down. The operator's base DaemonSet addsdrbd-reactorand thesetup-lvm-configurationinit container, neither has a limit, andsatellites-talos.yamldoesn't remove them. So the pod was in the victim set even with the 2Gi limit. That is the strongest argument for this change, and the suite currently credits the satellite container alone. -
The PR body still makes the claim b7fa98c disproves: "a
memory.max... is what container-aware heap sizing reads. A 2Gi limit therefore yields a heap of roughly a quarter of that". The next section repeats it ("the JVM derives its heap from one operator-facing knob", "4Gi still derives a capped heap"). Under merge commits the body becomes the merge message. The CodeRabbit block at the end would land too, and it describes changes this PR doesn't make (multus moving tocozy-multus, optional CNI plugin installation). Please fix the heap sections from what b7fa98c says and drop the CodeRabbit block. -
Three commit bodies carry stale or process text into main. 9b6ed66 has the same quarter-of-the-limit heap claim. 516459f says "the JVM derives its heap from 4Gi" and starts with "49d483c7 exempted...", a SHA that is no longer on the branch. d8a6581 calls the Dockerfile evidence what "overturned the sizing premise under review". Folding 516459f and b7fa98c into 9b6ed66 with a corrected body fixes all of it.
## What this PR does
System components now get a default container memory limit, so their pod
cgroups carry a `memory.max` and drop out of the Talos userspace OOM
handler's victim set. `cozystack-operator` maintains a LimitRange named
`cozystack-system-defaults` in every system namespace it reconciles.
The Talos handler (v1.12+) scores cgroups with `memory_max.hasValue() ?
0.0 : {Besteffort: 1.0, Burstable: 0.5, ...}[class] * memory_current`
and drops everything that scores zero. Only a memory limit sets
`memory.max`, so only a limit takes a pod out of the candidate set. A
request just moves a pod from BestEffort to Burstable, which under the
default `strictCgroupClassOrdering: true` still means killed second.
`PriorityClass` does nothing here, because the handler reads cgroupfs
and never talks to the apiserver. Victim selection is also unrelated to
the trigger, so a tenant workload thrashing against its own limit can
drive node memory pressure while a system component with no limit is
what gets killed.
An audit of a running cluster found around 70 workloads across ~30
packages with at least one container missing a memory limit. Per-chart
resources would not cover that set, and would not keep covering it as
packages are added. So the LimitRange is written by
`reconcileNamespaces`, which already creates these namespaces and
already tells system from tenant. It also covers init containers, which
#3495 can't reach: one of them without a limit leaves the pod cgroup
without `memory.max`, whatever the main containers declare.
Tenant namespaces are skipped. Where the tenant chart's own
`tenant-range-limits` exists (only when the operator configured
`resourceQuotas`), a second LimitRange next to it would leave the result
to the order LimitRanger iterates them. Where it doesn't exist, a tenant
namespace is not the place for the platform to impose a default.
### Why the default is 32Gi
The handler grants immunity for `memory.max` existing at all, whatever
its value. So the ceiling doesn't need to be fitted, and 32Gi is high
enough that nothing plausibly reaches it. A ceiling low enough to bind
would turn a rare pressure-driven kill into a deterministic one for any
component whose real usage nobody measured. This repo already has one
such case, recorded in the `vertical-pod-autoscaler` values, where a
110Mi limit OOM-killed the updater and failed HelmReleases with it.
Scheduling is unaffected, since pods are scheduled against requests and
the paired default request is 32Mi. An operator who wants the ceiling to
bind can lower it, per component in that component's chart or fleet-wide
with the knob, once real usage is measured.
### When the default is withheld
A default below a container's own request makes that pod impossible to
admit, so the operator checks before it applies. It scans Deployments,
StatefulSets, DaemonSets, CronJobs, Jobs and Pods in the namespace, init
containers included, for a container that requests more than the
configured limit and declares no limit of its own. If it finds one, it
withdraws the managed LimitRange and records a hold in the
`operator.cozystack.io/system-memory-state` annotation on the Namespace.
The hold does not clear by itself when the blocker disappears, because
an empty scan looks the same as a pod between deletion and recreation.
Lowering a previously applied limit also creates a hold, even with no
visible blocker, because LimitRanger writes the defaulted limit onto
admitted pods and the scan can no longer tell which containers declare
one. A cluster administrator releases the hold by copying the
`<hold>:<target>` token from the state into the
`operator.cozystack.io/system-memory-ack` annotation. The token is used
once and only for that hold and target. If a blocker is still visible,
the token is rejected and the hold stays. Package reconciles are
scheduled at least every five minutes, so an acknowledgement takes
effect on a quiet cluster too. The reason and the token also appear in
the operator log under `withholding the default container memory limit`.
### Namespace another LimitRange already governs
If a system namespace already has a LimitRange that says anything about
memory, at the Container or the Pod scope, the operator writes nothing
there and withdraws what it wrote before. A second default leaves the
effective value to iteration order. A foreign `max` below this default,
a `min` above the default request or a `maxLimitRequestRatio` rejects
pods outright, which takes out a whole namespace. At the Pod scope the
collision can't be decided in advance, because it depends on how many
containers a future pod has. A LimitRange that bounds only cpu or
storage coexists normally. A same-named LimitRange without the
operator's managed-by label is treated as foreign and left alone.
This matters most in `kube-system`, which is in scope because
`cozystack-scheduler` installs there, and where a distribution's or an
administrator's own LimitRange is likeliest to sit.
### Disabling
Setting `cozystackOperator.systemNamespaceMemoryLimit` to `0` disables
the feature. On the next reconcile the operator removes every LimitRange
it owns cluster-wide, found by the managed-by label. While the feature
is on, it also removes its LimitRange from namespaces no active Package
targets any more. The safety state on the Namespace stays in both cases.
### Docs
`docs/operations/system-memory-limits.md` landed in #3496 ahead of this
code, so main describes a `4Gi` default and installer values that do
nothing yet. The page is corrected to the 32Gi default and now describes
withholding, the acknowledgement, and the foreign LimitRange rule.
### Not in this PR
linstor policy. #3824 extends the controller's existing exemption from
limits to the satellite, and a linstor limit here would contradict it,
so linstor stays with that PR.
The scan reads six workload kinds through `APIReader`, uncached, on
every reconcile of every system namespace. That cost is tracked in
#3977, since the system namespace set isn't known when the cache is
built and the right fix depends on a reconcile-rate measurement nobody
has taken.
### Verification
`go vet` and `go test` pass for `cmd/cozystack-operator` and
`internal/operator`, and `helm unittest` passes on the installer chart
for the knobs unset, set, and the limit at `0`. The reconciler tests
cover withholding on an oversized request, the hold surviving the
blocker's removal, the hold on a lowered limit, acknowledgement and
token rejection, every memory field of a foreign LimitRange at both
scopes, ownership by label, the disabled sweep, and a deleting Package
not creating policy.
The withhold design has not been run on a live cluster yet. An earlier
design of this PR was, and that run does not carry over.

### Downstream repositories
I walked the trigger map against the diff.
`packages/core/installer/values.yaml` gains two keys, but the
`ansible-cozystack` trigger is for a required key or a rename of one the
role passes, and these are new, optional and default to `""`, so the
role is unaffected. Nothing else in the map is reached by the Go
changes, the operator template or the page.

### Release note
```release-note
feat(operator): system namespaces now get a default container memory limit through a LimitRange maintained by cozystack-operator, which keeps system components out of the Talos userspace OOM handler's victim set. Tune it with cozystackOperator.systemNamespaceMemoryLimit (default 32Gi) and cozystackOperator.systemNamespaceMemoryRequest (default 32Mi); set the limit to 0 to disable it. The default is far above any real working set on purpose, because the handler grants immunity for a memory.max existing at all, not for its value. A namespace with a container that requests more than the limit and declares no limit of its own gets no default, and stays without one until a cluster administrator acknowledges the hold recorded on the Namespace (see docs/operations/system-memory-limits.md); lowering a previously applied limit needs the same acknowledgement. A namespace where another LimitRange already sets anything about memory is left alone. A container that declares its own memory limit is never changed.
```
Follow-up to #3495, which merged before these landed. It reverses one decision that PR made, so the reasoning is here rather than in a commit body.
The satellite was sized on a premise that is not true
#3495gavelinstor-satellitea 2Gi memory limit, and the comment justifying it said the satellite is "a Go binary with a bounded working set, so a generous limit costs nothing and buys immunity". It is not a Go binary.packages/system/linstor/images/piraeus-server/Dockerfileinstallsdefault-jre-headlessat line 134 and endsCMD ["startSatellite"]at line 173, the samelinstor-serverdistribution the controller runs withstartController. That matters in the direction the sizing went, because a
memory.maxis not only an RSS ceiling for a JVM, it is what container-aware heap sizing reads. A 2Gi limit therefore yields a heap of roughly a quarter of that, while the 368Mi peak the comment quotes is already whole-process RSS measured on three nodes, and the same comment says it grows with DRBD resource count. On a storage node with a large resource count that trades a rare pressure-driven kill for anOutOfMemoryErroror GC thrash in the middle of a DRBD operation, which is the failurelinstor-controlleris already exempted to avoid:values.yamlgives it requests and no limit, andtests/cluster_test.yamlpins that withnotExists. So the satellite now matches the controller, and
tests/satellites_test.yamlpins the exemption the same way.#3495was reviewed and approved on the state that carried the 2Gi limit, and the approval explicitly recorded that the satellite, plunger and drbd-logger all carry limits. This changes that, deliberately, on the evidence above rather than on a preference. The exemption moves the ceiling rather than removing it
Worth being precise, because an earlier draft of these comments got it wrong. With the LimitRange from #3494 present, admission defaults a container that declares no limit to
--system-namespace-memory-limit, 4Gi by default, so the pod does getmemory.maxand the JVM derives its heap from one operator-facing knob instead of a per-chart guess. Without #3494, or with the knob cleared, the container really is limit-free and the pod stays in the OOM handler's victim set, which is what it does onmaintoday. 4Gi still derives a capped heap, so this mitigates the heap-sizing problem rather than settling it, and settling it needs a peak measured at a high DRBD resource count plus an explicit heap share.velero node-agent, same call for a different reason
#3495sized its 2Gi limit from a figure the comment itself labels as idle, 121Mi. node-agent is the one workload in that set whose demand is driven by user data rather than cluster size: kopia and restic walk, hash and index a volume's file tree during aPodVolumeBackup, so no measurement on a development cluster bounds it. The kill a ceiling prevents happens only when the node is genuinely short of memory. The kill a ceiling introduces happens on a healthy node in the middle of a backup, on clusters whose large backups completed while node-agent was unlimited. It is exempted, pinned withnotExists, and what would settle it is a peak measured under a backup of a large many-file volume. The narrative comments come out of the rendered manifests
#3495's review asked for this and it did not make the merge.#comments are not stripped at render, so the 20-line block atmultus-daemonset-thick.yml:161-180and the block beside the satellite resources were copied verbatim into the rendered object in every cluster, and went stale the moment a number changed. Both are now a short pointer at the stanza with the account in the test suite beside the assertions, which cannot drift out of step with the values because changing one means changing the other. The measurement lines stay at the stanza, since that is what a person changing a request needs in front of them. The multus template and its patch under
patches/are kept consistent: the patch was regenerated rather than hand-edited, reverse-applied to recover the pristine upstream manifest first, then forward-applied to confirm the result is byte-identical to the committed template.Testing
Both exemptions are pinned with
notExistsonresources.limits, so re-adding a ceiling fails the suite rather than passing quietly, and both were mutation-checked in that direction. The multus change adds no assertions, so the existing limit pin was mutated instead to prove it still bites after the comment move.helm unittestpasses for linstor, velero and multus,hack/multus-install-cni-plugins.batspasses because it extracts the init script from the same template, andpre-commit run --all-filesleaves a clean tree. One thing not addressed here
packages/system/linstor/tests/cluster_test.yamlsays the controller has "no limits: avoid throttling / OOM-killing the JVM". The throttling half is about the absent CPU limit and is fine. The OOM half now carries the same imprecision this PR corrects for the satellite, since with #3494 in the namespace the container is defaulted rather than unbounded. It predates both PRs, so it is left for whichever change next touches that file.Summary by CodeRabbit
