Assert each resource kind and name.
With nginx.replicas: 2, the template emits one PodDisruptionBudget and two Deployment/PersistentVolumeClaim/Service sets. Assert each document’s kind and metadata.name, including http-cache-test-nginx-cache and the -0/-1 replica names. A document-count assertion alone can pass after a resource is replaced.

Verdict
NOT LGTM
First off, thank you for this. http-cache had no unit tests at all until now, and the ones you wrote are good: every documentIndex assertion checks kind first, so an index shift fails readably instead of silently, and I confirmed by mutation that the suites actually go red when the chart regresses rather than just passing along. I want this in.
There is one thing to sort out before it can go in, and it is not visible from inside the chart: the nginx suite pins an image reference that the release machinery rewrites, which is making hack/promote-rewrite-tags_test.bats red on this branch right now. Details and a suggested fix are inline. It is a two-line change, and the repo already has the pattern in a couple of places.
Findings
- [MAJOR]
packages/apps/http-cache/tests/nginx_test.yaml:26, the pinned cozystack image ref drifts out from under the test at release time - [MINOR]
packages/apps/http-cache/tests/nginx_test.yaml:4, the suites cover a bit less of the default render than thetemplates:list suggests
One note on the description
The PR says the suites cover the default render of both workloads the chart manages, and they do cover nginx/deployment.yaml and haproxy/deployment.yaml. Four of the seven templates render objects that nothing asserts, though, and one of them (workloadmonitor.yaml) renders a document the CRD schema rejects. More in the second comment.
What I checked
- Nothing regresses. I rendered base and head over
external=false,external=trueandstorageClass=cozy-stub: all three unchanged, no immutable-field breaks, no removals, plus 64 schema-valid value combinations with no failures. The diff touches no template and no values, so upgrade and fresh install are both untouched. - The suites are not vacuous. Ten of twelve mutations reddened them, including both replica defaults, the PVC size default and the
.tagfile content. Two stayed green: theworkloadmonitor.yamlline above, and renaming the nginx container, which is inert because both containers in that pod use the same image string. - The promotion script and its bats test want GNU
sed/grep, so I ran both inubuntu:24.04with the repo mounted read-only. Local tooling was helm v4.0.4 with helm-unittest v1.0.3; CI installs the plugin fresh, so a plugin-version difference in assertion semantics is the one thing I did not exercise.
Not blocking, for later
templates/workloadmonitor.yaml:37deserves its own change: the third WorkloadMonitor has noreplicassource in this chart, and the apiserver types the field as an integer.templates/haproxy/deployment.yaml:34hardcodesimage: haproxy:latest, with no digest and nocozy-lib.imagerouting, which matters for mirrored and air-gapped installs. Your haproxy assertion pins that exact string, so whoever fixes the image has to touch the test too. AmatchRegexon^haproxywould spare them that.hack/select-e2e.shescalates anypackages/apps/http-cache/**change to the full 23-suite e2e run, and a tests-only diff escalates exactly like a template-only one. Excluding per-charttests/**the waypackages/tests/andhack/*.batsalready are would keep helm-unittest-only PRs off the full matrix. Not caused by you.
The exact-value assertion embedded the release tag, so it went stale every time a release rewrote images/nginx-cache.tag, and the release promotion script's own postcondition scan already catches this before a release ships. Match the repository and sha256 shape instead, matching the pattern multus and kuberture already use for the same reason. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Akanksha Trehun <[email protected]>
## What this PR does vpn was one of the eight user-facing apps in `packages/apps/` called out in #3631 as shipping with zero helm-unittest coverage. This adds a `tests/` suite pinning the default render and wires the standard `test: helm unittest .` target the sibling charts already use, following the same pattern as #4081, #4074 and #4093. Ran `helm unittest .` locally against the chart, it passes. `make show` needs a live cluster connection through `cozyhr`, which was not available in this environment, so I relied on `helm unittest` for local verification, same as the referenced sibling PRs. ### Screenshots Not applicable, test-only change. ### Downstream repositories Walked the trigger map in docs/agents/contributing.md against the diff: this only adds a test file and a Makefile target inside an existing package, it does not add, rename or remove a package, and it does not touch `values.yaml`, `values.schema.json`, `Chart.yaml` or `README.md`, so none of the listed triggers apply. - [x] No downstream repository is affected by this change - [ ] [cozystack/website](https://github.com/cozystack/website) - follow-up: - [ ] [cozystack/terraform-provider-cozystack](https://github.com/cozystack/terraform-provider-cozystack) - follow-up: - [ ] [cozystack/ansible-cozystack](https://github.com/cozystack/ansible-cozystack) - follow-up: - [ ] [cozystack/ccp](https://github.com/cozystack/ccp) - follow-up: - [ ] [cozystack/talm](https://github.com/cozystack/talm) - follow-up: - [ ] [cozystack/cozyhr](https://github.com/cozystack/cozyhr) - follow-up: - [ ] [cozystack/cozy-proxy](https://github.com/cozystack/cozy-proxy) - follow-up: - [ ] [cozystack/cozystack-telemetry-server](https://github.com/cozystack/cozystack-telemetry-server) - follow-up: - [ ] [cozystack/external-apps-example](https://github.com/cozystack/external-apps-example) - follow-up: - [ ] [cozystack/examples](https://github.com/cozystack/examples) - follow-up: - [ ] [cozystack/community](https://github.com/cozystack/community) - follow-up: ### Release note ```release-note test(vpn): add Helm unit test coverage for the default render ``` <!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> ## Summary by CodeRabbit - **Tests** - Added automated validation for the VPN deployment’s default configuration, including replica count, container image, service port, and generated resource naming. - **Chores** - Added a convenient command for running the VPN chart’s automated tests. <!-- end of auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai -->

Akanksha Trehun (@magic-peach) NOT LGTM, and the tests are not the reason. The http-cache application was removed from main in #4200 (merged 2026-09-18), so packages/apps/http-cache/ no longer exists there. This branch now conflicts with main on the Makefile, and the suites have no chart left to render. I think this PR can be closed. Thanks for the work, and for turning the image comment around so fast.

Akanksha Trehun (@magic-peach) closing this: the HTTPCache app was removed from main in #4200, so there is nothing left for these tests to cover. Thanks for the work anyway. |
What this PR does
Adds Helm unit test coverage for the http-cache application chart, one of eight user-facing apps that shipped with no test target at all, per #3631. Adds a
tests/suite and the standardtest: helm unittest .target to the Makefile, matching the pattern already used by tested sibling charts such as clickhouse. The suites cover the default render of both workloads the chart manages: the nginx cache Deployment/PVC/Service set (one per replica) plus the shared PodDisruptionBudget, pinned to the release image reference and the default PVC size, and the haproxy Deployment, pinned to its replica count and image.
Ran
helm unittest .locally against the chart; all 4 tests across both suites pass.Screenshots
Not applicable, test-only change.
Downstream repositories
Walked the trigger map in docs/agents/contributing.md against the diff: this only adds test files and a Makefile target inside an existing package, it does not add, rename or remove a package, and it does not touch
values.yaml,values.schema.json,Chart.yamlorREADME.md, so none of the listed triggers apply.Release note
