Hide v open devtools option when running profile & release mode in Flutter Web #143451

Closed

Description

@Anas35

Use case

When running a Flutter application in the web on profile or release mode, pressing h lists available options, including v Open Flutter DevTools. However, pressing v does not open DevTools as it is currently not supported in the web environment.

A search on Google led to issue tracker link flutter/devtools#3969, which discusses this limitation.

    @mdebbar @natebiggs is there any reason we don't start DWDS for profile mode? I'm not terribly familiar with the difference between debug and profile mode for web. Is profile mode basically an alias for release mode for web targets?

    Only debug mode targets ddc. Profile and release mode both target dart2js when the flutter run command is used (and wasm is not specified):
    https://github.com/flutter/flutter/blob/master/packages/flutter_tools/lib/src/isolated/resident_web_runner.dart#L358

    We might pass some different flags to dart2js in profile mode vs release mode. But either way it's dart2js so there's no devtools debugging capabilities.
