Here's a screen record of the first (and then second) load of the weather demo: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/316685/for-github-issues/weather_first_load.mp4

Notice that on the first load, we see a blue screen and then the image. This is longer enough for the user to notice. On a second display of the weather demo, the background image appears nearly instantly.
