TUTORING PROGRAMME

The Tutoring Programme (PAT-UA) is a quality enhancement initiative in higher education designed to guide and support university students across academic, personal, and career-related matters. The University of Alicante rolled out the programme across all faculties and schools in the 2006/2007 academic year, establishing a collaborative and flexible framework from the outset. Embedded within the Office of the Vice President for Educational Innovation, PAT-UA is coordinated and overseen by the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE). Each faculty or school features a dedicated PAT Coordinator who tailors the programme to local needs, manages the selected teams of tutors, and coordinates the student peer mentors.

The programme continually evolves to adapt to the changing higher education landscape and, above all, to the needs of the students it guides and supports. Today, PAT-UA's core strategic pillars include:

  • All undergraduate students automatically receive PAT tutoring without needing to apply.
  • Playing an active role in supporting students through reasonable adjustments and learning accommodations.
  • Continuous training and development for all teams of tutors.
  • Partnering with the Office of the Vice President for International Relations to support exchange students and those planning to study abroad.
  • Strengthening online channels to complement face-to-face tutoring.
  • Formally valuing university tutoring, with PAT participation serving as an indicator within the DocentiaUA teaching assessment framework.
  • Regularly reviewing the programme to drive ongoing improvement.

Student personal, academic, and professional success is a defining measure of our university's overall performance. PAT aims to serve as the collaborative foundation to help make that success happen.
