Brett Hull is in a funk.
"It's not even fun to go the rink anymore," Hull, the St. Louis Blues' all-star right wing, said recently. "There is no enthusiasm and what I've said all along, is that if it's not fun, then what's the sense?"
While 37 goals in 56 games would be just fine for most hockey players, only Wayne Gretzky ever scored 70 or more goals in three consecutive seasons before Hull did it in the last three. So that and the team's position near the bottom of the Norris Division prompts Hull to say, "It's just been a bad year."
The past week or so, things for Hull and the Blues have been off the charts, funkwise. The Washington Capitals flew here today and hope to add to the funkiness by beating the Blues in their Thursday night game at The Arena. …
