Everyone frames the AI race as OpenAI vs Anthropic. The most interesting story is the one nobody's putting on a slide. OpenAI still taking share. Anthropic reaccelerating. And open source growing faster than both.

For two years the doomers promised AI would torch the job market. Instead it's quietly built over a million new jobs in the US since 2023. And the biggest surprise? A huge chunk are blue collar.

US tech has shed 48,000 jobs in the last year, and the internet has already decided AI is the villain. I don't buy it. At least not the whole thing.

Since early 2025 the average tech job posting dropped from 29 required skills to 22, and started asking for more experience instead. Fewer skills. More years. Sounds like a contradiction. It isn't.
