Cannot touch widget behind a (transparent & unelevated) AppBar when extendBodyBehindAppBar is true

Steps to Reproduce

Execute flutter run on the code sample
Attempt to tap the button which is behind the transparent & unelevated AppBar

Expected results:
Button accepts tap

Actual results:
Button does not accept tap

Reason:
AppBar uses a Material widget (app_bar.dart line 1060) with an unspecified MaterialType, which defaults to MaterialType.canvas. Material widgets absorb touches unless the type is MaterialType.transparency.

Suggestion:
If the AppBar's elevation is zero and background color is transparent, then set the Material within the AppBar to type = MaterialType.transparency. This allows touches to pass through instead of being absorbed.

I will create a PR for this, but am open to any other strategies (e.g. an explicit parameter on AppBar).

Thanks for the report. I do see the same behavior. Running the given code, the ElevatedButton widget is behind the appbar which has elevation: 0 and has extendBodyBehindAppBar set to true.

If we set extendBodyBehindAppBar to false, then we are able to tap on the button properly and recognize the gesture.

Making a proposed change to the Material at the line referenced above

Simply setting MaterialType.transparency is not the way to go, since it will break AppBar, if you set it to transparent, you cannot have background color anymore in the regular app bar, hence broken tests.

Making a proposed change to the Material at the line referenced above

I was not suggesting leaving type: MaterialType.transparency as the change.

My point is that if we do set that, certain tests break. I would assume pixel tests to break, since the UI will be different. However there is at least one test which is neither a pixel test nor debug assertion:

Which means this behavior could be hit in production with the 'real' change (i.e. when the user has set background color to transparent and elevation to zero, yielding a MaterialType==transparency). My question is about testing strategy for this, i.e. where do we have to add new tests for both current AppBar and also a potentially transparent AppBar.

(From current test coverage, it looks like this SliverAppBar test is the only case.)

I see the same behavior. Would like the ability to click behind AppBar as well.

I will come back to the PR (#102055) in the near future, as our team still needs it as well.

Just an fyi, this behavior is not observed in a BottomAppBar with:
