What & why

Four small CI-contract fixes were opened independently as #536, #537, #538, and #539, but each draft still inherited failures covered by the others. This draft consolidates their exact changes into one reviewer-facing base stabilization instead of maintaining an artificial stack of mutually red PRs.

The remaining Marketplace failure was deterministic: an MCP install config write synchronously reconciled the unrelated model catalog, so live provider discovery could keep the installation dialog in its pending state. Runtime config application now reconciles the model catalog only when its actual inputs (providers or model_catalog) change, with the same condition applied during rollback.

The product assertion and timeout remain unchanged. The draft also carries the focused test-contract fixes from #537–#539: request context for the public heading test, the zoom precondition for grouping E2E, and explicit shell-command readiness.

Co-written with an AI coding agent; I reviewed the complete delta and verified the result independently.

How you verified it

  • make gate passed on the consolidated head.
  • Site, Web, desktop, and Go builds passed.
  • Focused daemon tests for runtime config application and the model-catalog change predicate passed.
  • The Marketplace acquisition scenario reproduced the stuck dialog before the fix, then passed twice focused and again in the complete Web shard 2 (92 passed). Web shards 3 and 4 also passed (27 and 64 tests); shard 1 completed 70 tests and reported one unrelated operator-home cleanup permission error.
  • The runtime E2E lane passed.
  • The desktop E2E-030 contract passed against the packaged head with an isolated PATH. The unisolated full desktop run selected an existing operator runtime and was not valid evidence for this head.
  • Independent review of d28940cd…90503026 found no issues.

This PR remains a draft until the required checks for the published head are green and a maintainer confirms the consolidation/closure plan.

Impact

MCP Marketplace installation no longer waits for unrelated model-catalog discovery during config application. Provider or model-catalog changes still reconcile normally, including rollback.

No CLI command, HTTP/UDS route, config.toml key, Web contract, or documentation changes.

Compozy Impact Audit:

  • Native tools: No schema, capability, or risk-flag changes.
  • Extensibility and hooks: MCP config application keeps its existing lifecycle while skipping unrelated model-catalog work.
  • Workspace data isolation: No ownership or scope changes.
  • Official Compozy skill: No prompt or skill behavior changes.

  • make gate passes locally; this PR is delivered only after its required CI checks are green
  • New or changed behavior is covered by tests, or I explained above why not
  • If an agent wrote or co-wrote this, I named it above and verified the result myself

Walkthrough

The changes add terminal timeline catch-up for loop event following, support JSON follow output, gate model catalog reconciliation on relevant configuration changes, fence stale same-epoch generation snapshots, and update desktop and site test fixtures.

Changes

Loop event catch-up

Layer / File(s) Summary
Drain terminal loop timelines
internal/cli/loop_read_commands.go, internal/cli/loop_read_commands_test.go
The follow command drains cursor-paged timeline entries after terminal status detection and supports JSON output. Tests validate catch-up ordering, resumed snapshots, EOF handling, and single-stream behavior.

Runtime configuration reconciliation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Gate model catalog reconciliation
internal/daemon/settings_runtime_applier.go, internal/daemon/settings_runtime_applier_test.go
Apply and rollback paths compare previous and next configurations. Model catalog reconciliation runs only when providers or model catalog settings change. Tests cover MCP-only, provider, and model catalog updates.

Generation output fencing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Fence terminal generation outputs
internal/loop/generation_snapshot.go, internal/store/globaldb/global_db_task_claim_test.go
Same-epoch writes cannot regress terminal generation output to an active status. The database test verifies that the terminal status and output reference remain unchanged.

Validation fixture updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Update UI test validation
desktop/e2e/_electron/__tests__/shell.spec.ts, packages/site/lib/__tests__/public-heading-hierarchy.test.tsx
The shell test checks the command palette menubar title. The heading hierarchy tests mock the Next.js server connection.

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~30 minutes

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to c13b4

The PR narrows model-catalog reconciliation to relevant configuration changes and stabilizes loop persistence, event catch-up, and focused test contracts. No actionable merge-blocking risk remains after normal required checks and review.

Head CI confirms the intended row is fixed: runtime passes, and operator declares loop and node environments in the builder passes in shard 2 at 9.2s. That shard is red only on E2E-137, which also failed on merged #525; the other red jobs are outside this one-file E2E delta (site heading hierarchy, desktop palette readiness, and Profiles settings readiness).

Current-main CI follow-ups are now isolated in #537 (site request-context harness), #538 (E2E-137 setup aligned with #525), and #539 (shell command readiness). This PR remains draft pending those base fixes and a clean rerun; no undraft action was taken.

Code-CI receipt: head 9b3bed95 passes every CI lane. The runtime fix drains durable timeline events after the terminal briefing fence; the fan-out fix rejects same-epoch coordinator snapshots that would regress terminal outputs to live states. Vercel authorization remains the only red external status.

Greptile Summary

The PR stabilizes CI and runtime behavior by completing terminal timeline drains, limiting model-catalog reconciliation to relevant configuration changes, fencing terminal generation outputs, and correcting focused test preconditions.

  • Drains all fixed-head timeline pages before an already-terminal follow exits and performs a final catch-up after terminal observation.
  • Preserves structured output during terminal catch-up.
  • Avoids model-catalog reconciliation for unrelated configuration updates while retaining reconciliation for provider and catalog changes, including rollback.
  • Updates site, web, desktop, and Go regression tests for their required runtime conditions.

Confidence Score: 5/5

The PR appears safe to merge.

No blocking failure remains.

Important Files Changed

Filename Overview
internal/cli/loop_read_commands.go The follow path now drains every fixed-head cursor page and catches up after observing terminal status; the previously reported pagination omission is resolved.
internal/cli/loop_read_commands_test.go Added terminal-drain and structured-output regressions use isolated fixtures and call t.Parallel(), resolving the prior test-structure finding.
internal/daemon/settings_runtime_applier.go Model-catalog reconciliation is conditionally applied only when provider or catalog inputs differ, with the same predicate used during rollback.
internal/loop/generation_snapshot.go Same-epoch nonterminal snapshots can no longer overwrite persisted terminal generation outputs.
web/e2e/fixtures/os-navigation.ts OS navigation helpers now explicitly wait for command-palette readiness before exercising shell commands.

Greptile/CodeRabbit follow-up:

  • Fixed complete cursor draining for already-terminal loop events --follow runs.
  • Fixed terminal catch-up rendering so both json and jsonl remain structured JSON streams.
  • Added the missing parallel test marker and converted the model-catalog cases to named parallel subtests.
  • No code change for the generic docstring warning: the touched helpers are unexported, and repository style avoids redundant comments that do not explain why.

Remediation: c13b47e00ef876fda89e3ee0507f59892a066c89

Validation: focused CLI/daemon regressions, test-shape checks, race suites for both affected packages, the canonical race-enabled disconnect/resume E2E, source-size/diff checks, and make gate (all affected lanes passed).

All four inline threads have been answered and resolved. Pedro's remaining gate is the current-head CI and bot re-review; the external Vercel authorization failure remains untouched.

🟡 Changes recommended

The new same-epoch regression fence in internal/loop/generation_snapshot.go blocks only some non-terminal statuses and still allows terminal outputs to be overwritten by other valid non-terminal states (e.g. waiting, paused, awaiting_goal).

Pull request overview

This PR consolidates several CI-stabilization fixes across the daemon, CLI, and E2E/test harnesses, with a focus on removing deterministic flakiness/regressions (notably Marketplace installs waiting on unrelated model-catalog work, and loop events --follow terminal catch-up correctness).

Changes:

  • Make runtime config application/rollback reconcile the model catalog only when providers or model_catalog actually change.
  • Ensure loop events --follow drains fixed-head timeline pages (including terminal transitions) and keeps follow output structured for -o json/jsonl.
  • Harden web/desktop E2E setup by waiting for command-catalog readiness via the menubar “Command palette” shortcut title before one-shot actions.
