Custom WordPress development
A WordPress site built around how your business works.
Content types for the things you actually publish, editing screens your team can’t break, and integrations with the tools you already use — planned, built on staging and handed over with code you own.

Why build on WordPress
The platform behind 40% of all websites.
W3Techs finds WordPress on 40.1% of all websites — and on 58.6% of the sites that use a content management system it can identify. That reach means a deep talent pool, mature hosting and no lock-in to one agency. Select a segment to compare.
WordPress 58.6%
Open source and self-hosted: you choose the host, own the database and can hire any WordPress developer to work on it later.
Shopify 7.8%
A hosted commerce platform. Strong for stores, but content structure and hosting are set by the platform.
Wix 6.2%
A hosted site builder aimed at do-it-yourself sites, with less room for custom data models and integrations.
Squarespace 3.6%
A hosted builder known for templates; customisation stays inside what the platform offers.
Every other CMS 23.8%
Joomla, Webflow, Drupal, Tilda, Duda and many others share the rest of the market.
Is custom right for you?
Do you need a custom build — or just a better theme?
Plenty of sites are well served by a good theme and a few plugins. Tick what sounds like your site today and we’ll tell you honestly where you land.
What we build
Four layers of a custom WordPress website.
01 / 04 — Content model
Your content, properly structured.
Custom post types and fields for events, products, people or case studies — registered in a plugin, as WordPress recommends, so your content survives any future redesign.
02 / 04 — Editing
Pages your team can’t break.
Reusable blocks and patterns in your design, with locked layouts where structure matters and free editing where it doesn’t.
03 / 04 — Integrations
WordPress talking to your other tools.
CRM, email, booking and payment connections built on the WordPress REST API and the services’ own APIs — no copy-and-paste between systems.
04 / 04 — Launch
Fast and secure from day one.
Optimised images, minimal scripts, caching, hardened logins, sensible roles and automatic backups — set up before launch, not bolted on after.
Lean by design
Every plugin is code someone has to keep patched.
WordPress core is rarely the problem — the add-ons around it are. A custom build replaces overlapping plugins with only the features you use, so there is less to update and less to go wrong.

6
vulnerabilities found in WordPress core itself all year — all low priority
How we write it
Built the WordPress way, so any developer can pick it up.
We follow the official handbooks rather than clever shortcuts. That keeps the site update-safe — and means you are never tied to us.
Content types
Content that outlives the theme
The Plugin Handbook recommends registering custom post types in a plugin “rather than a theme”, so content “remains portable even if the theme is changed”. We do exactly that.
Integrations
Standard APIs, not fragile hacks
The REST API lets applications exchange data with WordPress as JSON — it is the same foundation the Block Editor runs on. Our integrations use it, so they survive updates.
Blocks
Blocks that load only where used
Blocks registered with block.json — the canonical method — have their CSS and JavaScript enqueued only on pages that contain them, which keeps pages lighter.
Plan your budget
Get a ballpark in under a minute.
Choose what your project needs and see where similar builds usually land. It’s a starting point for the conversation — every project gets a fixed, written quote after a short discovery call.
How the project runs
From discovery call to a site your team runs.
Layouts and content structure are agreed before any code is written, and you watch the build take shape on a private staging site.
-
Agree what you’re building
We talk through goals, content and must-have features, then send a written scope and a fixed quote.
- Goals and content inventory
- Feature and integration list
- Written scope and fixed quote
-
Settle structure before code
Page layouts and the content model are signed off first, so the build has no surprises.
- Page layouts agreed
- Content types and fields mapped
- Technical plan for integrations
-
Watch it come together
We build on a private staging site and share progress, so you can comment as we go.
- Theme, blocks and patterns
- Custom post types and integrations
- Testing on real devices
-
Go live and take the keys
We move the site to your hosting, check everything works and train your team.
- Launch on hosting in your name
- Recorded walkthrough and written guide
- Post-launch support window
Handover
Yours from day one — and easy to run without us.
A custom site is only a good investment if your team can use it. Handover is part of every build, not an extra.
- You own everythingThe code, the content and a hosting account in your name once the final invoice is paid.
- A recorded walkthroughYour own site, explained screen by screen, plus a short written guide for new team members.
- Support after launchA post-launch support window set out in your quote — then a care plan only if you want one.
Stuck with a half-finished build? We start with a short code review and tell you honestly whether to continue the existing work or rebuild parts of it.

Questions, answered
Why not just use a page builder and plugins?
For simple sites, that can be the right call — and we’ll tell you so. The trade-off shows up as sites grow: overlapping plugins to maintain (91% of 2025’s WordPress vulnerabilities were in plugins, per Patchstack) and layouts editors can easily break. A custom build keeps only what you use.
Will another developer be able to work on the site?
Yes. We follow the official WordPress handbooks — content types in a plugin, integrations on the REST API, blocks registered with block.json — so any experienced WordPress developer can pick it up.
Do I own the code and the site?
Yes. Everything we build is yours once the final invoice is paid, and it runs on hosting in your name.
Can you work with a design we already have?
Yes. We can build from Figma, Adobe XD or a PDF mockup. If you need the design built as a reusable theme, see custom theme development.
Which hosting do you recommend?
We work with any host that runs a current PHP version and gives SSH or SFTP access. We can suggest a few options that fit your budget.
What happens after launch?
Every build includes a post-launch support window, set out in your quote. After that you can keep the site updated yourself or move to a care plan.
Can you take over a half-finished project?
Often, yes. We start with a short code review and tell you honestly whether to continue the existing work or rebuild parts of it.
